UPSC conducts various exams every year. Recruitment is based on mainly 2 stages, written exam followed by Interview. Some exams conducted by UPSC can also opt for a third stage ie GD or Group Discussion but this stage is not compulsory with all UPSC based exams.
First requirement for clearing the GD phase is keep yourself updated with current affairs by reading daily newspapers, weekly magazines etc. then only you will be able to speak on any topic provided. Next, always try to be the initiator or concluder of the topic, if not then try to be most vial participant. Improve your communication skills, use some words which attracts the listener. Along with a good speaker you will also have to be a good listener.
Some latest GD topics:
1. Job opportunities high in India or foreign?
2. Bush trip to India.
3. Olympic games 2012
4. Effect of western culture on Indian youth
Best way to practice for GD is gather around with your friends & discuss on some latest burning topic & assess yourself how much you are able to participate in the discussion.
All the best!
there is no GD only personal interview, for personal interview read newspaper daily, about your native place, biodata, family background.. All the best..
