    Hello,

There is no easy optional. You have to work equally hard with any of the subjects included..

There is a process to choose optionals. You must follow it to get the best ones for YOU. Firstly, strike out the subjects from the complete list that you think you can't take in any circumstances. Secondly, go through the syllabus of each of remaining subjects and select the ones that you think you can manage. Thirdly, ask your more than one seniors who have actually given the exam with those subjects. Finally, make the decision about the subjects.

Mind it, the final decision will be yours and it must be based more on your interest in the subject, availability of good study material, availability of good tutor/guide in case you need some help during your preparation. Don't go by the experience of a single person. If you have right frame of mind, right approach, you can crack UPSC with any subject of YOUR choice.

    Thanks,
    goyalk

Dear first of all you should read the following procedure :

Preliminary Exam : 2 papers in objective type pattern and qualifying in both papers is necessary for mains exam

mains Exam : 9 papers in conventional type pattern and qualifying in each and every paper is necessary and you have to choose any two subjects in this section for mains exam preparation and you may choose any two subjects from the following list of optional subjects which are provided by UPSC board :

    Agriculture
    Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Chemistry
    Civil Engineering
    Commerce and Accountancy
    Economics
    Electrical Engineering
    Geography
    Geology
    History
    Law
    Management
    Mathematics
    Mechanical Engineering
    Medical Science
    Physics
    Philosophy
    Political Science and International Relations
    Psychology
    Public Administration
    Sociology
    Statistics
    Zoology

Dear you are from commerce stream so that there is a separate subject for you to select that is - Commerce and Accountancy but you should have enough and in depth knowledge about your subject then you would be eligible to qualify and as for as my views are concerned that when you have completed your graduation with this subject so that you can definitely qualify this exam and for second subject - if you have studied about mathematics with your commerce stream then you may choose it otherwise you can choose business studies means management subject for preparation because you have studied about management in your graduation but if not possible then i have listed some combination of subjects which you may choose for mains exam and would be easy to get qualified :

    1. Commerce and Accountancy + Management
    2. Commerce and Accountancy + Public Administration
    3. Commerce and Accountancy + Political Science and International Relations
    4. Commerce and Accountancy + Sociology
    5. Commerce and Accountancy + Economics
    6. Commerce and Accountancy + Mathematics

You can apply for UPSC Civil Service Preliminary exam between these following dates

Application dates between - 2nd of february 2013 to 4th of march 2013

Date for UPSC civil service preliminary exam - 19th of may 2013

    All the best

Subjects which you choose as optional should be taken into well consideration because they help you to score more marks and therefore it is advisable if you choose you subjects like political science, geography etc as optional.Generally those subjects are chosen optional which you like and have good command over.

Friend, in my opinion, no any subjects is too difficult or too easy. It totally depends upon our mentality. Please note that no any subject neither make you successful nor guaranteed your success. You are advised that just choose those subjects in which your basic concepts are cleared, have keen interest, studied in degree level, availability of study materials etc. You can join any coaching institute for better performance in UPSC Examination as they will helps you to get more improvement in concerned subjects.
