Following are the steps that are taken by those who have become an IAS officer though all those who have taken following steps have not become one:
1- Study hard. 'Hard' really means 'hard'
2- Apply online for the vacancies.
3- Give prelims exam.
4- If the result is positive, apply for mains exam.
5- Give mains exam.
6- If the result is positive, you will get a call letter for interview.
7- Give the interview.
8- If the result is still positive and you are among the toppers, you are an IAS officer. Simple.

First of all u should be prepared for PRELIMS exam which filters the eligible candidates. Then MAINS exam is conducted. Then INTERVIEW is the last thing which finally helps in selecting candidates as IAS.
To become an IAS Officer you have to clear the prestigious Civil Services Exams(CSE).
UPSC condusts the CSE every year to make recruitments to various posts like IAS,IPS,IFS,IRS,etc.
Recruitments are made to a total of 24 posts/services through the CSE.
It is one of the most prestigious and tough exam held at the All India Level.
So hard work,patience,dedication,time management,etc are important to clear the CSE.
You should start by clearing your basic concepts,gaining indepth knowledge of the topics according to
syllabus and working on youe personality development like body language,interpersonal skills,etc.
Try solving previous year question papers and model test papers.Read good newspapers,magazines and be aware
of the current affairs and issues.
UPSC CSE is conducted in 3 stages :
-CSAT/Prelims Exam-is conducted to shorlist candidates for Mains exam.
It consists of 2 papers of General Studies of 200 marks each.
So total marks for CSAT/Prelim exam is 400 marks.
Candidates clearing the CSAT exams are only eligible to appear in the Mains Exam.
-Mains Exam-is conducted to test the indepth knoweledge and intellect of the candidates.
It consists of 9 papers of total weightage 2000 marks.Choice of 2 optional subjects has to be made
and 2 papers of each subject prepared for the Mains exams.
-Interviews-is the test of personality of candidates and is of total 300 marks.It is the final stage of selection
and after securing a good rank in the Final Merit list you will be selected for becoming an IAS Officer.
It is a rank based exam so to get a good post like the IAS,IPS,IFS,etc you should secure a top rank in the merit list.

General Category-21-30yrs on 1st August of the year of exam
OBC-21-33yrs
SC/ST-21-35yrs
Educational Qualification :
Minimum educational qualification is graduation in any discipline from a UGC recognised University.
Final year appeared/appearing candidates can apply on provision.
Attempts :
General Category-4 times
OBC-7 times
SC/ST-Unlimited times
