dear you have completed bachelor of dental surgery from recognized university and for you IMS (Indian Medical Service) is the best so, you should apply for it bcoz your background from medical line.

Friend, if you want to choose the subjects for UPSC Examination, then you have to decide it yourself. Because it is solely internal matter of candidate. Candidate should have to consider certain factors deeply in his mind carefully like * basic concepts in concerned subjects * availability of study material * Keen interest in the subjects * Subjects taken in school & college levelSo keeping above mentioned factors in mind, you should decide it yourself. My humble advised to you to try to develop the ability of taking self decision quickly & accurately.
Examination Pattern for UPSC Civil Service Examination 2013
Preliminary Examination : This is the first test conducted in the civil service exams and there would be following two papers conducted in this examination in objective type pattern and each paper is necessary to be qualified
General Studies - 200 marks
CSAT - 200 marks
Mains Examination : This is the second test conducted in the civil service exams and there would be following 9 papers conducted in this examination in conventional type patter and qualifying in each paper is compulsory
Paper I - Any Indian Language from the list of UPSC board - 300 marks
Paper II - English Language - 300 marks
Paper III - Essay Writing - 300 marks
Paper IV and V - General Studies - 300 marks each
Paper VI and VII - Any one selected optional subject - 300 marks
Paper VIII and IX - Any one selected optional subject - 300 marks
You will have to choose any two subjects in this examination as optional and you can choose any two subjects from the following list of subjects which are available to choose

First of all you have to think about your prelims exam after that you have to choose you subject .
for that you have 34 subject list from that you can choose any of 4 but i prefer maths if you are smart in calculation because they can give you full marks of zero mark.
but first you have to prepare for prelims.
