Hi there!
Firstly you need to get through Civil Service Aptitude Test(CSAT), commonly known as Preliminary Exam. Then you can get to Mains only if you've passed Preliminary Exam.
In Preliminary, there are two papers. First paper consists of Current events of national and International, History of India and International etc. Second paper consists of Aptitude.
Each paper has 200 marks and there is negative markings(-1/3 marks for each negative answer).
Coming to Mains,
It consists of two optional subjects which have to be selected from 22 subjects:
Paper I Indian language : Matriculation standard. selected from 28 Indian constitutional languages. Qualifying nature.
Paper II English : Matriculation standard. Qualifying nature.
Paper III Essay : 200x1 = 200 marks
Paper IV & V General studies : 300x2 = 600 marks
Papers VI,VII,VIII & IX 2 subjects(2 papers each) 300x4 = 1200 marks
Interview(Personality test) = 300 marks
Grand total 2300
and for the optional papers you need to attempt 5 questions per paper.

I.A.S. exam or Indian Administrative Service exam is a prestgious civil service exam conducted by UPSC .
The I.A.s. exam consist of 3 stages.
1.Preliminary Exam:-It has 2 papers,paper-1 (200 marks)& paper-2(200 marks).Questions are of objective types.The duration of time of the exam for Paper-1 2hours,For paper-2 2hours.
2.Main Examination(written):-The questions are of descriptive types.The total marks of the examination is 2000 marks & for personality test 300 marks.ranking is done on the basis of marks scored for a total of 2300 marks.in main exam candidates have choose 2 optional subject from the following subject.
Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & veterinary Science, Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Geography, Geology, History, Law, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology, Public Adminstration, Sociology, Statistics, Zoology and literature one of the following languages:
Arabic, Assamese, Bodo,Bengali, Chinesse,Dogri, English, French, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani,Maithili,Malayalam, Manipuri,Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Pali, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Sanskrit,Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.All the question paper of the exam is essay type.
b) Candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combination of subjects:

v) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.

You have to apply for the Civil services exam to enter into Indian Administrative Services.
The exam is conducted in various stages mainly 3 stages:
1. The first stage is prelims exam.
Now prelims exam is known by the name CSAT.
It stands for Civil Services aptitude test.
This will test your basically 2 sections:
General aptitude : In general aptitude questions of maths, logical reasoning and english would be asked.
General studies: In this current affairs, history, geography, economics etc will be asked.
