    Hi there!

Firstly you need to get through Civil Service Aptitude Test(CSAT), commonly known as Preliminary Exam. Then you can get to Mains only if you've passed Preliminary Exam.
In Preliminary, there are two papers. First paper consists of Current events of national and International, History of India and International etc. Second paper consists of Aptitude.
Each paper has 200 marks and there is negative markings(-1/3 marks for each negative answer).

    Coming to Mains,
It consists of two optional subjects which have to be selected from 22 subjects:

Paper I Indian language : Matriculation standard. selected from 28 Indian constitutional languages. Qualifying nature.
Paper II English : Matriculation standard. Qualifying nature.
    Paper III Essay : 200x1 = 200 marks
    Paper IV & V General studies : 300x2 = 600 marks
    Papers VI,VII,VIII & IX 2 subjects(2 papers each) 300x4 = 1200 marks
    Interview(Personality test) = 300 marks
    Grand total 2300

and for the optional papers you need to attempt 5 questions per paper.

    I wish you all success!

    Dear friend,

IAS stands for Indian Administrative Services.

It is conducted by UPSC once in a year.

You have to apply for the Civil services exam to enter into Indian Administrative Services.

The exam is conducted in various stages mainly 3 stages:

    1. The first stage is prelims exam.

Now prelims exam is known by the name CSAT.

It stands for Civil Services aptitude test.

This will test your basically 2 sections:

General studies: In this current affairs, history, geography, economics etc will be asked.

This is a purely objective exam i.e, multiple answers options.

    2. Second stage is mains exam in which
    subjective questions would be asked.

    3. Third stage is Interview.

Here are some basic criteria to sit for the exam:

You must be a graduate degree holder from any stream.

    percentage doesnot hold much importance.

Only passing marks is needed for the exam.
