    DEAR APPLICANT,
    -The Mains exams of the CIVIL SERVICEs are conducted in October and November by the UPSC.
    -There has been no change in the pattern of examination for a while.
    -THE PATTERN AS IN TERMS WITH THE UPSC,FOR THE MAINS EXAMS ARE MENTIONED BELOW-

    -� PAPER-I
    One of the Indian Languages to be
    selected by the candidate from the
    18 languages included in the
    VIIIth Schedule to the Constitution (Qualifying Paper)
    [300 Marks ]

    -� PAPER-II
    English (Qualifying Paper)
    [300 Marks ]

    -� PAPER-III
    Essay
    [200 Marks ]

    -� PAPER-IV & V
    General Studies(300 Marks for
    each paper)
    [600 Marks
    ]

    -� PAPERS-VI, VII, VIII & IX
    Any two subjects (each having 2
    papers) to be selected from the
    prescribed optional subjects (300
    marks for each paper)
    [1200 Marks ]

    == The Total Marks for the Written exams in the Mains is 2000 MARKS.
    == Apart from this,the INTERVIEWS are supposed carry 300 Marks,raising the tally of Total Marks to 2300.
    == You can attempt all the papers of the Mains exams,except the Qualifying Papers,in any language,as prescribed in the 8Th Schedule of Indian Constitution.

    Main examination should consist of 9 papers,it is a descriptive exam.

    Part B - Main Examination - Optional Subjects
    Paper-I One of the Indian Languages to be selected by the candidate from the 22 languages included in the VIIIth Schedule to the Constitution (Qualifying Paper) 300 Marks
    Paper-II English 300 Marks
    Paper-III Essay[in the medium you choose] 200 Marks
    Papers IV & V General studies(300 Marks for each paper) 600 Marks
    Papers VI, VII, VIII & IX Any two subjects (each having 2 papers) to be selected from the prescribed optional subjects (300 marks for each paper) 1200 Marks
    Total Marks for Written Examination
