• civil is the term which means people. The name civil service was coined refering to service to the people. Initial there was only one discipline namely civil after that other branches began to come out as a result of faster development in it.

• So the exam for all the aspirant who have completed their bachelor degree or about to complete the degree in a year duration.

• But there is engineering service for recruiting the engineers to various engineering vacancies that is put available. The various engineering vacancies are available under the disciplines civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and telecommunication . For which you can apply in addition to IAS , IPS if you are engineer.

• The exam for IAS, IPS remains the same except that you have physical selection for IPS. The engineering service has their own exam and selection process

Dear, Civil Services doesn't mean the recruitment of Civil Engineers only. Instead of this it means, its a combined exam for different posts of different Civil Departments of Central Govt., which is conducted by UPSC. After getting success in this Exam, one is eligible for IAS/IPS/ Indian Foreign Services and many more posts of other Civil Departments in a Gazetted Rank.

UPSC conduct Civil Services Exam and the name Civil Services does not mean that only Civil Engineers can apply. Instead its mean that Who works for Society.

In Civil Services any graduate from any field can apply for the exams.

Eligibility Criteria:

1) You need to complete or appearing in final year of graduation in any stream from recognized college or university.

2) you must have attained the age of 21 years on 1 August of the year of exam and you must not have attained the age of 30 years on same date. UPSC also provide relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST.

Dear civil service examination conducted by UPSC Board for IAS Officer post means Indian Administrative Officer Post which is the top most administration post in India means no post is bigger than IAS Officer post and civil service examination conducted for this post and other posts also as - Indian Foreign Service, Indian Revenue Service etc. that means it is not conducted to hire civil engineers because there is a separate examination for engineers in India which is also conducted by UPSC board and exam is IES - Indian Engineering Service

To give the Civil services exam, candidate should possess a valid degree from recognized University.

And it doesn't recruit only Civil Engineers, any candidate who have completed their graduation are eligible to give this exam.

Candidate must have attained 21 years of age and must not have attained the 30 years of age for general category.

There is Upper age relaxation as per the government guidelines.

The maximum age limit for OBC Category is 33 years.

The maximum age limit for SC/ST Category is 35 years.

Number of attempts allowed for the exam:
