    Hi Dear

The Cut-off marks or qualifying marks for most of the competitive exams are not fixed.

They are decided on the basis of the number of available vacancies and some other factors.

So there is no rigid selection cut-off.

And i will also advice you that do not take any decision about competitive exams keeping cut-off marks in mind because these are relative terms. i.e. it will depend on the number and quality of students appearing for the exam and no. of seats they are contesting for.

    Hope it solved your query.
    Good luck..

    Hello,
Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of candidates for the post of IAS, IRS, IPS.
The cut off marks are same for all the candidates. There is no fixed cut off marks in the Exams conducted by UPSC since UPSC follows merit system. The merit list starts from candidates with highest marks and continues till vacancies are filled. So nobody can determine how much marks will be enough for further selection. All you can do is prepare your best and give it your best shot.

For further details refer the pdf attached below and for Previous Years Question Papers you can refer www.upsc.gov.in
You can fill the online application form from the official website www.upsconline.nic.in

Re: What is the minimum qualifying cutoff mark for ST candidates in Civils Preliminary Exams?

Dear as per the news announced by the UPSC board that - about 12876 candidates truly get qualified in the preliminary exam of UPSC Civil Service 2012 and dear for your kind information that cut-off marks are not mentioned by the UPSC board but the qualified candidate may see the marks and qualifying status of the prelims exam so according to those who were appeared and qualified in the prelims of IAS exam 2012 the cut-off marks is following for the last year :

General Category candidates - Minimum 206 marks and it was between 205-210 out of 400 marks

OBC Category candidates - Minimum 197 marks and it was between 196-200 out of 400 marks

SC Category candidates - Minimum 191 marks and it was between 191-195 out of 400 marks

ST Category candidates - Minimum 183 marks and it was between 181-185 out of 400 marks

So dear according to the previous year result for prelims exam the percentage required in the prelims exam for general category is - 55%, OBCs - 52%, SCs - 49% and STs - 47% of minimum marks are required to get qualified in the preliminary exam of civil services

But this upcoming year, it may change because of the increment of the competition in India because of other exams means some other departments exams effected the civil service exam also as Bank Clerk and PO, SSC, Railways, Teacher, LICs, Engineering exams etc. and those candidates who were prepared for these exams would also enter in the civil services and state services also and they also will try their destiny and you should think about those who are preparing only for civil services from 4-6 years so that the cut-off marks would definitely be increased in the upcoming and it may go to the following percentage marks :

    General Category - 60% marks
    OBC Category - 56% marks
    SC Category - 52% marks
    ST Category - 49% marks

So dear it's time to be prepared hard for the preliminary exam because in the environment it would be really tuff to get qualified in the prelims exam and you should use hard + smart study to crack the prelims exam

    All the best
