the process of becoming the IES officer comprises three stages
1.prelimns
2.mains
3.interview
you are eligible of giving the exam if you having a degree In the following streams of engineering
electrical engineering
mechanical engineering
electronics and communication engineering
civil engineering
your age should be in between 21-30 years. A relaxation of 3 years and 5 years is given to the obc and sc/st students respectively.

UPSC conducts the exam for IES every year.If you have an engineering degree from Civil,Mechanical,Electrical or Electronics engineering,then you will be eligible to apply.You need to be within 21-30years age limit for general category.There will be a 3day written test which will have General studies on 1st day,Engg paper objective on 2nd day in 2 parts,Engg paper Subjective paper 2 parts in 3rd day.Your subsequent papers will be corrected only if you qualify in the previous papers.After qualifying in the written test you will be called for interview and then based on your total marks,you will be selected.Each paper and interview has 200marks so your marks will be counted out of 1200.

At first you have to online registration of Preliminary exam. This exam consist objective papers of General studies and General knowledge and your optional subject papers.

Personality Test
Those who successfully qualify in the written examination are called for the Personality test, which is a Personal Interview kind of test. The total marks for the Personality test is 200 Marks.

There is also a age relaxation provided to SC/ ST/ OBC category candidate as per government rule.
