Hello,
Yes, IES is 3-day exam. The exam generally commences on Friday. On first day, there will be one objective paper that generally contains 60 questions of GS and 60 of English. on the next day, there will be 2 objective papers of conventional type i.e. related to your technical subjects. If you fail to get a minimum marks in these 3 objective papers combined, then your other papers will not be checked. On the last day, there are 2 subjective conventional papers.
After you clear written exam, there is an interview and medical test.

Indeed IES is a 3 day exam. It has total of 5 papers each of 200 marks-3 objective and 2 subjective.
The 1st day will have one objective paper of 2 hours of General Ability test which will be common for all branches.
2nd day there will be 2 papers, both objective. These 2 papers will be of the respective branch paper of 2 hour duration each.
3rd day there will again be 2 papers but both subjective. These papers will be of 3 hours duration and will be for the respective Branch papers.
Although all the papers are conducted together i.e. in a 3 days time frame,Only those candidates who crosses the cutoff marks in the first 2 days exam i.e. General Ability test and the 2 objective branch papers, their subjective papers will be evaluated. For the rest will be declared unsuccessful and even if their papers were good in subjective they will not be evaluated.
