You should start your preparation 5-6 months before the exam and daily you should study atleast for 8-10 hrs.
You should start the preparation before the 6 months of the exam. And it should be better to start the preparation in the last year of the graduation.
after applying the PCS exam you will have to do very work hard and daily give 5-6 hours for your study. Before examination you should be prepared for your exam proper.

It's depend on your knowledge and your catching power of subjects and also your subjective knowledge. Normally candidates make a vision during study and start preparation. But one can start hard work after applying for the exam. But it need 8 to 10 hours daily routine study.
