Examination Pattern for UPSC Indian Civil Service Examination
Preliminary Examination : This is the screening test in that candidate will have to appear for two papers that are - General Studies and CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test and each of these papers contains 200 marks for all objective type questions
Qualifying in Prelims is mandatory by securing minimum qualifying marks
Main Examination : Following Seven Papers will be conducted in this examination and all papers are of conventional type pattern :
Paper I - Section I for Essay that contains 200 marks and Section II for English Comprehension - 100 marks
Paper II, III, IV, V for General Studies - 250 marks each
Paper VI and VII - Optional Subject Paper - 250 marks each

You are allowed to choose anyone optional subject from this list and both of the last papers will be based on that subject so here I request you that you should be careful while selection and choose a subject in which you are confident that you can really score good marks then only you should opt otherwise take suggestion of any expert so they will guide you on that and mainly try to get close with the specialization subject of your bachelor's degree or any other interesting subject that you know well about because you have an opportunity to get good marks in main examination that is why you should take advantage and choose interesting subject and get good marks for final selection
