When should I take part in UPSC/Civil Service exam? I am currently pursuing 2nd BBM from Bangalore University.

hi . i am priyanka , and pursing bbm 2nd year in bangalore university. i want to know,when to take part in upsc/civil service exam's.................... i want your gudies regarding this issue... i dnt want to mis it.

Well, you may opt in when you have complted your graduation or you are in final year.

But it's best to appear when you have done minimum 1 yr of coaching after completing Graduation

I am sure that Coaching always helps a lot so, try that for sure.

Eligibility Criteria for Civil services Conducted by UPSC :


>> You must have done Graduation from any Recongnised University by UGC , if Correspondence than DEC.

>> Age Criteria :

Minimum age : 21 Years
Maximum Age : 30 Years

Relaxations for OBC : 3 Yrs in Maximum Age
Relaxations for SC/ST : 5 Yrs in Maimum age.

>> Number of Attempts allowed :
General : 4
OBC : 7
SC/ST : No limit.

>> You Must be Indian Citizen to be eligible for any UPSC examination.

as you are in second year now than you are not eligible for the same right now.

but you can apply next year.

because the minimum qualification required fro the same is graduation from a govt. recognized university but final year candidates are also eligible .

so you should apply next year .

but first check your age criteria also.because it is also necessary to qualify it to be eligible for civil services examination.

age criteria:-

1. for general:-21-30 years.

2. fro obc :-21-33 years.

3. for sc/st:-*21-35 years.

YOU can appear in the Prelims exams of UPSC civil services aptitute Test (csat) after you have completed your graduation.

Prelims exams are held in the month of may each year and forms are filled in feb each year.
so in your last year of the BBM , you can fill the form and give the prelims exams in May.

But also rebember it is one of the most toughest exams in India
also general candidates are only given 4 attempts.
so its better to pass your BBM and then appear in the UPSC prelims the next year after passing the BBM

After completion of your BBM degree you can apply for Civil Service exam.

UPSC organizes the civil service exam for the posts of IAS, IPS and IRS.

CSE is the toughest exam of India.

So you should do preparation very well after that you should apply.

Because there is limited attempts for CSE


Eligibility for CSE

You must have bachelor degree in any branch

Final year candidates are eligible to apply for CSE

No certain makrs required

Age should be between 21 to 30 years

Age relaxation

Schedule caste and schedule tribes 5 years

Other backward classes 3 years

Physically disabled 10 years

You must be Indian.


Exam procedure

Prelims ( 400 marks)

Mains( 2000 marks)

Interview( 300 marks)
