If you have cleared your backlog then there will be no problem. In the extreme badluck case, the panel of interviewer may ask you about the backlog otherwise and if you convince them with a suitable answer then there will be no problem. No one is bothered about your graduation marks or backlogs if those are cleared. Only your marks in CS Mains will be looked upon. So prepare well for CS Prelims and Mains and forget about your previous backlogs.
dear aspirant,
first of all you need to clear all your backlogs and complete your graduation. then you have to apply for the post of IAS. It does not effect much in interview but the thing that required is you have completed graduation and you have graduation degree.
for IAS you have to write Civil Services exam that is conducted by UPSC every year.
Civil Services exam constitutes three parts:
1. CSAT(Prelims)
2. Mains
3. Interview

Dear friend,
to be honest to you I want to inform you that if you have not cleared your backlog upto the time of interview of Civil Services after clearing the mains you are ineligible for interview because minimum education criteria for Civil Services Examination is one should have passed his/her graduation in any stream from any UGC recognized university.
So my suggestion to you is that you should better clear your backlog in graduation because unless you clear your backlog and pass your graduation successfully although how much good your marks are in graduation you are ineligible to appear for Civil Services Examination.
Thank you and all the best![]()
If you have backlog in Graduation then it will create problem during verification of documents because you are still not a Graduate and minimum qualification for IAS exam is Graduation.
So if you don't have Graduation degree then your candidature will be automatically cancelled. So it is adviced that you must complete your Graduation first and then apply for IAS examination.
If you are having backlog then it is clear that you don't have degree and this will cancel your candidature for IAS exam.
Percentage doesn't matter if you are not awarded Degree by the University. So first of all clear the backlog and then you will be definitely considered for the selection.
You may pass the IAS exam with merit but in the end you have to produce the documents related to your completion of Graduation.
Hello friend,
there is no any question of percentage or backlogs ,if you have a graduation degree from a govt recognized university than no body can stop you to sit in the examination and to crack it .your backlogs will not affects your interview.
and there is no matter what percentage you got in your graduation and after completing your graduation you will be eligible for the same,
having a backlog doesn't mean that you have no knowledge . what I mean to say is that there are only knowledge matters.
because sometimes due to some personal reasons we are not able to study but if we have knowledge and if we are determined towards our goal than nobody can stop us...
so see the details and check other requirements for the examination .

Hi
Yes my dear friend it will effect you at the time of your interview.
For giving the upsc IAS exam, at the time of your interview, all of your documents are verified and that too included of the graduation. And if you have not completed your any one subject in graduation, you wont be having your complete degree along with you and if you do not have the complete degree with you then you are not allowed to give the interview and you will be labelled as not eligible
Dear Friend,
The educational qualification for the IAS exam is to have a graduation degree in any stream/discipline from a recognize university.
You need to clear any backlog you are having to get a graduation degree.
With the back logs you cannot apply for the IAS exam.
There is no minimum marks for applying for the IAS exam.
During the interview session you may be asked about the reason for the backlogs and you should be prepared with a positive answer.
For details check the official website of the UPSC.
Dear for your kind information that UPSC board allows all those candidates to appear for preliminary examination who are either pursuing final year of graduation or awaited for final examination result and remember that passing in prelims is necessary by all the candidates then only they will allow you to appear for main examination and before that your graduation should be completed at any cost and if your degree is no completed or you got backlogs or awaited for the final exam result then we are sorry to say that they will never allow you to apply for UPSC Civil service main examination despite getting qualified in preliminary examination because you have not completed your bachelor's yet and wanna apply for main exam that is why be careful before applying for prelims and main examination that you care for graduation and complete that by hood or by crook before applying for UPSC Main examination of IAS
If you provide fake details about completion of your degree and appear for main exam and pass that too then board will demand for confirmation of the documents and other certificates and you will have to provide all the certificates and qualifications completed as on 1st January of the year and if your qualification is not according to that then you will not be allowed to appear for interview and your candidature will be immediately cancelled by the committee and remember that you may get punished for that you think about your future and do not get any backlog
All the best
