Well nothing is impossible if you have dedication and determination to achieve something. You can do it if you have the right attitude towards the IAS exam preparation.
So maintain a discipline time table and strict study schedule . Follow the syllabus of IAS exam and if you have problem self studying join coaching classes.

See,it all depends upon you!
If you think that you can cover up the vast syllabus in a year,then one year is more than enough!
But if you are not confident of doing it in 1 year,then you can go for 2 years of coaching!
In my view,1 year is more than enough!
All you need to do is to be focused!
Always keep two things in mind-
1) Hard work is the only ladder to success
2) Practice makes a man perfect
So don't waste time and start with your coaching classes!
Keep in mind one thing that it is the self study and the amount of hard work that you put after going back home is really what matters.
Revise all the notes given by the teachers at the coaching centre.
Keep doing hard work and burn your night lamps!

Dear if you are preparing for IAS Examination and decided one year to dedicate only for preparation so I would like to suggest you that this time is enough to get prepared for UPSC IAS Preliminary examination but there are some conditions while is time that are - You should not be in any course or graduation or other qualification pursuing from any institute because duty of that course will take your concentration out of the study of civil service examination that is why remove such type of problems.
Be ready to purely dedicate this year only for preparation of civil service examination because if you will not care about your own future then time will leave you behind and you will see that your classmates has been selected for the post of IAS Officer in various cadres then you will realize that if you has cared about it then you would have been at their place so think about it and get ready to give 70% time of this year only for preparation in that you should be ready to give more than 14 hours everyday in that you have to complete your coaching, revision, personal studies for this exam and all other works
Follow instructions of any good coaching institute and give time for practice and revision all the time and try to get each thing in depth while preparation because if you leave any topic then that will leave you behind so think about it first to appear for examination and make it sure that you are now able to crack examination of UPSC IAS and will secure good marks then only appear otherwise you will loose one year and one attempt that are limited and be selfish in study and do not be inconsistent in study otherwise you will leg behind
