No one can gain experience without involving to that matters. I think your plan is right that you want to gain experiences on it. But If you want some experiences on it, then you have to face the examination at least once. But before appearing the examination, You have to fully understand the pattern and syllabus and selection procedure of that examination. After that you can face the examination and analyse and learn what is your strong point towards your examination and what is weak point.
