Re: Can I become an IPS officer by studying B.Sc (Non Medical) course after completing +2 (Science)?

Dear there is following two ways to become and IPS Officer in India - First through direct recruitment in civil service examination and second through limited departmental competitive examination :

To apply for Indian Civil Service Examination, you should posses a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university and if you are pursuing final year of graduation or awaited for final year result of appearing for final year examination then also you are eligible to apply

Your age should not be less than 21 years and more than 30 years and relaxation in upper age as per government guidelines that is 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC category candidates

So you may see that you do not need to go for any other bachelor's degree after B.Sc because it makes you eligible for this examination

Selection Procedure : Following stages are there in the selection process of IPS Officers through this exam :

Preliminary Examination : Two papers conducted in objective type pattern and each paper contains 200 marks

Mains Examination : Following seven papers conducted in this stage in conventional type pattern

    Paper I - Essay - 200 marks and English Language and Comprehension - 100 marks = 300 marks

Paper II, III, IV & V Based on General Studies as - I, II, III & IV - 250 marks each

Paper VI & VII Based on Optional subject that you choose from the list as - I & II - 250 marks each

Note : When you apply for prelims exam then you must try to score good marks and qualify that stage because being passed in that stage is mandatory then only you will be declared eligible to apply for mains examination and passing in each paper of mains exam is also compulsory to be eligible for personality test and personality test contains 275 marks and if you pass and prefer for IPS Post then you will have to score rank according to the requirement then only you will be shortlisted for Physical and Medical tests and after qualifying these stages, you will become an IPS Officer and will be sent for training of at least 2 years

Second way to become IPS Officer Through Limited Departmental Examination :

To be eligible for this limited competitive examination, you should have following eligibility :

Must have completed 05 years of service as deputy superintendent of Police in states under state state service or Assistant Commandants in Central Para Military Forces or Officers of the rank of Major or Captain or Equivalent in the Armed Forces

Your service record should be unblemished and you must not have attained the age of 35 years as on 1st August of the year and relaxation in upper age as 2 year for SC/ST and 1 year for OBC

Examination Pattern and Selection Process :

    Paper I - General Studies - 200 marks - Objective Type

Paper II - General Aptitude Test - 200 marks - Objective Type

Paper III - English Language - 200 marks - Descriptive Type

Paper IV - Essay - 200 marks - Descriptive Type

Paper V - General Studies - 200 marks Descriptive Type
