As a chemical engineer you cans surely score better in that as compare to other subjects. Here is the one advantage which UPSC gives to aspirants is to choose subjects, so you can go with your background similar subject or according to your area of interest. As you belong to the chemical engineering branch, you would have some hope to take your branch in the elective subjects of the upsc but as you do not have the chemical engineering branch in the list of the optional subjects of the upsc, therefore you can have chemistry as your subject for the mains as it will be carrying much of your chemical engineering course and it will be also relatively easy for you to understand
