Dear Aspirant
You cannot take computer science as one of your optional. It is not in the list.UPSC doesn't set any specific paper for computer Science nor they ask questions related to them in any of their paper. However you may take other subject like Mathematics,Physics,Electrical Engineering,as these subjects are from science background.
Further keep in mind that even in general knowledge paper questions will be related to technology not of specific computer science.See Computer Science gradutes have more scope in software industry. There are numerous companies which are hiring computer gradutes every year.Their knowledge is of little importance according to the services appointed after qualifying civil service examiation. So if you are interested you may take other subjects like history or geography depending upon your interest in order to qualify for civil service examination.
So it all depend upon you if you want to qualify civil service exam you have to choose different paper for civil services examination as Computer Science is not provided as one of the optional.
hiyes you can opt of computer science as a subject for the civil service exam.for this you need to appear for teh civil servcie exam conduct by upsc once in ayear.choose the subject which you feel good for the remembering, you know about the subject concept.educational qualification require is bachelor degree in any discipline from recognized university, age limit=21-30 years, must be indian.
good luck thank you
Actually there is no subject related to computer science in optional subjects... Just refer upsc.gov.in for further details...
There will be two papers conducted in main examination for which you will have to choose anyone optional subject from the List of optional subjects available in notification or application form of main examination and first you should read all the necessary subjects then decide your optional subject for main exam because both papers contains 500 marks and if you cover it well then you can get ahead and more marks than others
Agriculture
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Anthropology
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce and Accountancy
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
History
Law
Management
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
Political Science and International Relations
Psychology
Public Administration
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology
Now you can see that there is no subject which is related to the computer science stream because computer science subject is not available in this list so we are really sorry to inform you that you have not chance to choose computer science as optional subject for main examination and we are also apologize that we do not have any exact information about this subject that why UPSC board did not include it in the list of optional subjects of main examination so you should choose another subject and start studying
Most of the students of various streams - Engineering and Science choose optional subjects of arts stream because coaching institutes are easily available for these subjects and preparation does not gives any worry to the aspirant while preparing for this examination so you should also choose any other subject - History/ Geography/ Political Science and International Relations/ Public Administration/ Sociology etc. and get prepared well for examination
All the best

hi
there are 22 subjects which are present in the list for the main papers of the upsc examination.
But computer science is not amongst those subjects therefore I am sorry to say that you being a graduate from computer science is not eligible for giving the upsc civil services examination.
Now if you want to appear in the exam then you have to take some other subject from the list provided by the upsc and prepare accordingly for that
Gud luck
