IES has 2 main rounds- Written test and Interview. Your final rank will be declared based on the total marks in these 2 exams.
You will get the service based on your rank only in the final list.
Mere qualifying in the written will make you eligible for the interview only where 2/3rd candidates are rejected after the interview based on the total marks of Interview and written.
The written test consists of 1000marks and interview is of 200 marks only.So you can understand what is the value of high marks scored in written test.
No govt exam other than those of Railways, recruits directly on the marks of written. You have to qualify the interview and based on cumulative marking, one is selected.
