And there is nothing wrong if you attempt for the both " IES " and " IAS "

Some number of the Students can apply for the I.E.S .. so there will be less competition


And any degree stream Graduate can apply for I.A.S so more will be the competition


So as per my knowledge you better to go for the I.E.S --- INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES

You are asking about job security for Central govt jobs??Then which else job will you find better job security.Civil services is the most high profile governement job in our nation. Time of preparation depends on your brain and its retention capacity.It is not fixed for all.You can apply for both IES and Civil Services being an ECE graduate.
In terms of speaking of easy exam,IES is relatively simpler than Civil services.IES will test one paper from general studies that also objective and the rest 1000 marks including interview will be for your Main paper i.e. ECE.But in Civil services,there will be questions from Current affairs subjective and objective,Literature paper,Compulsory language papers and Optional paper.Moreover the competition will also be higher as the candidates for Civil services are much more than in IES and that also for ECE.
So in my personal opinion,preparing and qualifying IES is slightly easier than Civil services.And if you are speaking about job security then both are among the most coveted jobs in the govt sector

After qualify of both exam you'll get a government job, then both job is secure.

IES is easy for you cause your background is B.tech. IES name has changed now it is ESE ( Engineering Services Exam ). IAS syllabus is more depth than ESE overall you'll take less time in ESE exam than IAS exam.
