Dear friend,
it is good that you want to go for civil services India. here you are asking about IAS and as examination, so first I tell you that both are the most preferable jobs and also the highest payable job in govt sector in India.
HERE I ADVICE YOU THAT IF YOU WANT TO WORK AS AN ENGINEER IN FUTURE AND YOU HAVE A PASSION ABOUT ENGINEERING THAN YOU SHOULD GO FOR INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES EXAMINATION.
BUT IF YOU WANT TO JOIN ADMINISTRATION AND WANT TO MONEY WITH POWERS THAN YOU SHOULD GO FOR INDIAN ADMINISTRATION SERVICES.
HERE I CLEAR YOUR DOUBT THAT BOTH ARE WORKING WITH THE SAME PAYMENT , SO YOU HAVE NO ANY FEAR ABOUT
PAYMENT, BUT IF YOU WANT POWERS WITH POSITION THAN THE IAS IS THE BEST OPTION FOR EVERY INDIAN.

Hi dear
Answer to these sort of questions depend upon once interests and aptitude.
Both the services you have mentioned i.e. IES & IAS are top most jobs in their respective sectors.
But as these are different jobs so you will have different responsibilities which will ensure different powers.
However the pay for both of these jobs is same but IAS Officers get some extra perks.
So i will suggest you to first determine in what type of job you are interested and then plan your preparation accordingly, as both of these exams have different pattern and different syllabus.
Good luck and make a good choice....
