Re: Are B.Tech (Information Technology) students eligible for Indian Engineering Services exam?

Yes any Engineering Graduate can apply for Engineering Services Examination but the recruitment is done in only four services which is mentioned below.

    -Civil Engineering Services

    -Mechanical Engineering Services

    -Electrical Engineering Services

    -Electronics Engineering Services

So you have to prepare for the examination according to any one of the above subjects because questions will asked from above stream only.

There will be no questions from IT field so be ready with your preparation according the above subjects then only you can succeed in this exam.

Age limit for exam is 21 to 30 years. Age is relaxable for reserved categories.

Selection is on merit and you have to perform well in written and interview.

But the only point to be taken care, that written part will consist of only four streams.

    1)Civil Engineering
    2)Electronics and Communication Engineering.
    3)Electrical Engineering
    4)Mechanical Engineering.

Re: Are B.Tech (Information Technology) students eligible for Indian Engineering Services exam?

    Dear Aspirant

Ya it is true that even a Btech IT student can appear for the examination. As the minimum educational criteria fixed by the commission is graduate from a recognised university in any stream. So after completing your engineering in IT you will be eligible for the examination.UPSC allows students from any stream to appear for the examination. They give equal opportunity all the candidates who wish to become civil servant irrespective of the educational field they belongs.

Besides the minimum educational qualification there is also age limit fixed by the commission. You have completed your age of 21years.It is the minimum age limit fixed by the commission for appering in theexamination. However upper age limit has been fixed to 30 years which has beenrelaxed by 3 years for OBCs and 5 years for SC/ST.So you don't think to appear for the examination in third year of your university degree. However you may appear for it in final years of examination. But at the time of Interview you have to produce your graduation passed certificate

Besides that one problem generally faced by the IT students is selection of optional paper. There is no separate paper included in UPSCsyllabus. So you need to appear for different papers among the list of optionalpaper. You may select either arts paper like history ,geography, economics, orscience subjects like mathematics, physics ,chemistry or any other paper likePublic Administration.See selection of optional is very crucial though itsweightage has been reduced but stills it paly a great role in determining topper
