You can only appear in IPS Exam if you satisfy the basic eligibility criteria like
Educational Qualification
The candidate must hold any degree in any discipline from any recognized university
Final year degree students are also eligible
Degree obtained by distance education/open university is also eligible if the university is a recognized university
Age limit

Special Physical Requirements For IPS
1.Minimum height of 165 cm for Men and 150 cm for Women (minimum height is relaxable to 160 and 145 cm for Men and Women respectively in the case of candidates belonging to ST and to races such as Gorkhas, Garhwalias, Assamese, Kumaonis, Nagaland Tribals etc.)
2.Min Chest girth fully expanded: 84 cm for Men and 79 cm for Women. Expansion of 5 cm for Men and Women.
3.Total amount of Myopia (including the cylinder) should not exceed minus 4.00 D and total amount of Hypermetropia (including the cylinder) should not exceed plus 4.00 D
4.Presence of Squint is a disqualification

UPSC board conduct a separate exam for police services posts which called - IPS - Indian Police Service
This is the most powerful post under the police department which is directly can get after qualifying the exam and interview process even there are some other posts which are more powerful than IPS Officer which are - DSP - Deputy Superintendent of Police, DGP - Director General of Police etc. but these posts only can get by the promotion after becoming IPS Officer so that you should prepare for IPS exam and to become IPS Officer you should have following eligibilities :
You must have a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university and if you are pursuing final year of the degree or awaiting for the result or appearing final year exams then you may apply for this exam
Your age should not be lesser than 21 years and more than 30 years and relaxation in upper age would be provided as per government guidelines which is 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC category candidates.
After applying for this exam you will have to qualify three diverse steps in this exam which are :
1. Preliminary Exam : Objective type paper contains 400 marks means each paper contains 200 marks
2. Mains Exam : You must be qualified in prelims then you would be allowed for mains exam and this exam contains 2000 marks for 7 papers and this would be as subjective type pattern exam and both pre and mains are necessary to qualify to reach to the next step.
3. Interview Process : After being passed in above mentioned steps you would be called for interview and you will have to perform and show your best in interview process then you will get the chances to become IPS Officer and if you pass in this step then you would become an IPS Officer in India.
4. Training : After becoming an IPS Officer you would be sent to the training for two year in which you will have to face exam and passing in the training is also important and after successfully completing your training you would be appointed as IPS Officer in a district for a special zone.
