To join the Customs Department through UPSC you have to appear/clear the UPSC Civil Services Exam(CSE).
Recruitments are made to 24 services/posts through UPSC CSE.
UPSC CSE is held every year to select candidates to various posts like IAS,IPS,IFS,etc.

After clearing the UPSC CSE you will get the post in Indian Revenue Services(Customs and Excise)Group A.
Steps to appear in the CSE to join the Customs Department :

CSE is conducted in 3 stages :
-Prelims/CSAT Exam-candidates are shorlisted for the Mains exam through CSAT exam.It consists of 2 Papers
of General Studies of 200 marks each.Total marks for CSAT Exam is 400 marks.

-Mains exam-is conducted to test the indepth knoweledge and intellegence of the candidates.Choice of 2 optionals subjects
have to made at this stage and 2 paprs of each optional subject has to prepared.Total marks for Mains exam is 2000 marks
and total 9 papers have to be attempted.

-Interviews-is the test of personality of candidates and is of 300 marks.After clearing the Mains Exam you will have to clear the
final stage of interviews to secure a rank in the Merit list and join the Indian Revenue Services of the Customs Dept.
