How many times can a person attempt UPSC exams?

Is there any limit to attempting of UPSC exams?

Sir, My dream is to join in INDIAN AIR FORCE. Previously I attempted one of the UPSC exams i.e NDA and presently I am preparing for CDSE. My doubt is that, how many times a person can attempt UPSC exams.

Re: How many times can a person attempt UPSC exams?

    Dear Friend,

For different UPSC examinations number of attempts is different.

For different category candidate number of attempts is different.

Number of different for different UPSC examination for different category students is given below.

Name of UPSC examinations General OBC SC/ST Physically Disable
National Defence Academy(NDA) No restriction No restriction No restriction Not applicable.
Combined Defence Academy(CDS) No restriction No restriction No restriction No Applicable
Indian Administrative Services(IAS) 4 times 7 times No restriction 7 times
Indian Police Services(IPS) 4 times 7 times No restriction Not Applicable
Indian Engineering Services(IES) 4 times 7 times No restriction 7 times
Indian Forest Services(IFS) 4 times 7 times No restriction 7 times
Combined Medical Services(CMS) No restriction No restriction No restriction No restriction
Special Class Railway Apprentices(SCRA) No restriction No restriction No restriction No restriction
Central Armed Police Force(CAPF) No restriction No restriction No restriction No restriction

N:B- For those examinations in which Number of attempts has no restriction is also bounded to a certain value.

This value is equals to age limit of that examination.

For example For NDA a candidate candidate can apply in between 16.5 to and 19 years and no further attempt is allowed.

    Wish You all the Best
