- number of attempts is Provided for all the UPSC exams to limit the number of aspirants applying every year. So it is better that you make use of the opportunity available as possible.
- All aspirant can start to make their attempt at the age of 21 and till the maximum age corresponding to their category.
- General category aspirant are provided with four attempts before the completion of 30 years of age.
- BC, MBC aspirants can make 7 attempts within 33 years of age.
- Concession is given for SC, ST aspirants who can make any number of attempts with 35.
- An aspirant is said to have made attempt even if they fails at the aptitude test. Applying for the exam is not considered as making attempt only appearing in the aptitude exam is considered to have attempted the exam.

Are not individual means not for every separate exam
Just like dear the general candidates can attempt the exam 4 times
so they have 4 chances to give any of the upsc exam
And for the obc their is 7 attempts
And on the other hand for the sc/st their is unlimited attempts allowed

then you can give the exam as per your age permits you
and there is some relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidates
SC/ST people have 3 years relaxation and 5 years relaxation for OBC student

No. of permissible attempts :- Four (Seven attempts of OBCs ) and no limit for SCs/STs.

Dear UPSC board has decided following number of attempts for UPSC exams as category wise :
1. General category candidate may apply for this exam only for 4 times
2. OBC category candidate may apply for this exam only 7 times
3. SC and ST category candidate may apply for this exam till the age of 35 years means about 13 times
4. Ex-Servicemen category candidate may apply for this exam till 35 years of age
5. PWD - Person With Disability category candidate may apply for this exam till 40 years of age
Dear for your kind information that UPSC Board conduct so many departments exams as - Civil Service, Forest Service, Police Service, Defense Service, Medical Service, Economic Service, Geologist etc. and required different age limitation and eligibility criteria to apply for each exam and the number of attempts are application for each exam means you may apply for 4 times for each of the UPSC exams means you are not restricted to apply for all UPSC exams only 4 times in your entire life.

Yes UPSC fixed a limited number of limit and this limit is for individual; exam not for all exam like as if we talk about CSAT attempt limit then you can attempt CSAT exam
Being a general candidate 4 times
Being a OBC candidate 7 times
Being a SC/ST candidate no limit you can give the exam till 35 year.
This limit is only for CSAt exam not for other exam you can give other exam freely
