Is the limit for attempts is individual for UPSC exams or gross of all the exams conducted by UPSC?

I have come to know that open category person is elligible for 4 attempts for UPSC exam. Please let me know this restriction is for each indivisual exam separately or is it like "you can given only four attempts in gross of all exams under UPSC" ?

    • General category aspirant are provided with four attempts before the completion of 30 years of age.
    • BC, MBC aspirants can make 7 attempts within 33 years of age.
    • Concession is given for SC, ST aspirants who can make any number of attempts with 35.
    • An aspirant is said to have made attempt even if they fails at the aptitude test. Applying for the exam is not considered as making attempt only appearing in the aptitude exam is considered to have attempted the exam.

The restriction is for each individual exam separately.
That is as a general candidate can give civil services exam 4 times. They did not count your attempts of other UPSC exams when talking about your attempts in civil services exam.

    Dear Applicant,
-The FOUR number of attempts that you have come to know about is considered for Individual exam conducted by the UPSC,AND NOT THE GROSS EXAMS conducted throughout by the UPSC.
-What you have been talking about here,is related to the CIVIL SERVICE EXAMS,CONDUCTED ANNUALLY BY THE UPSC.
-The eligibility criteria for the Civil Service exams are drawn below-
    {01} NATIONALITY
You must be a citizen of India,
or,You must be a subject of Nepal or Bhutan,
or,You must be a Tibetan refugee settled permanently in India before 1962.
    {02} AGE LIMITS.
You must be 21 TO 30 Years of age as on the 1st of August of the year in which the exam is conducted.
However, the upper age limit is relaxable be 5 years for SC/ST and ex-servicemen and by 3 years for OBC and physically disabled.
    {03} EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS.
You must have completed your Graduation or Equivalent from a recognized universe, with any subject or stream.
Final year students are also applicable.
    {04} NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS ALLOWED.
    FOR OPEN CATEGORY - 04
    FOR OBC CANDIDATES - 07
    FOR SC/ST CANDIDATES - UNLIMITED.
-Hence,the limitations in the number of attempts you talked about, follows for the Civil Service exams.
IT VARIES WITH THE OTHER EXAMS.
-If you fulfil the eligibility criteria, then there are no restriction on the number of attempts in the NDA exams,CDS exams,SCRA exams,IES exams, etc.
-Therefore,it is clearly concluded that the number of attempts are counted separately.

    My Dear Aspirant

For the upsc exam the attempts is gross means these

Just like dear the general candidates can attempt the exam 4 times

so they have 4 chances to give any of the upsc exam

And for the obc their is 7 attempts

And on the other hand for the sc/st their is unlimited attempts allowed
