Give equal weightage to eacch subjects of UPSC because it doesnt test your master mind in one subject instead it tests broad knowledge of different subject. Its also a long lasting study which you will ever see in your life. In case of routine you can select your favorite subject first to read which makes your mind fresh to tackle another subjects as well.
Dear planning and making strategy is most compulsory before preparing for any examination because if you will not make enough strategy then you may not schedule yourself to prepare for that examination and your daily routines would be effected that is why first of all i would like to tell you that
If you are preparing for IAS Preliminary examination then you must go to any good coaching institute to prepare well for this examination because there are so many features and advantages of coaching institute in your IAS Exam preparation and coaching institutes helps candidates to reach at their target by providing better study, complete study material, motivation, speed and practice test series, personality development programs etc. so that all aspirants prepares well in coaching institutes and get their goal and if you will go to the coaching then you do not need to adjust the time because the time of coaching institute of IAS is minimum 8 hours then you can easily adjust yourself according to new schedule
If you do not want to go any coaching institute or have already completed your coaching then you need to take more and more time from your home because taking time for study from house is not so easy and if you will stay in your home then you will see lot of works their and this is the real disturbance in your study that is why if you can take time then you must take at least 12 hours out of 24 hours everyday only for your study
First of all you should collect the complete syllabus and study material for preparation and start focusing on those subjects which are tough for you as CSAT etc. and give 60% time for tough section and 40% time for easy section then prepare well for examination and you should have practice work book of various publications as - Arihant Publication, Upkar Publication, BSC Publication, Disha Publication etc. and when you complete your syllabus then start practicing and try to solve at least 3 practice sets everyday to make a very good speed for examination and learn various time saving skills
