I was failed in 12th. Later completed B.Tech (Mech) with 53%. Can I appear in UPSC exam? Will 12th marks get counted in UPSC exam rankings?

Hi All,
I have failed in 12th standard in one of my academic subject and had gone for depression for quite a some time and later on got Mechanical Engineering degree (with 53%) from a VTU College and now I'm working in a Software Company .
I would like to know , 1. Am I eligible to apply for UPSC Exam ?
2. I heard that , UPSC is the most competitive exam in the country , so , given my scenario , what are my chances of getting-in.
3. For UPSC exam rankings , how much our 12th and Degree marks count ?

1- Yes, you are eligible to give UPSC exam provided you fulfill other eligibility criteria.

Number of attempts:
General - 4
OBC - 7
SC/ST - No limit

Age Limits:
General - 21 to 30 yrs
OBC (non creamy layer) - 21 to 33 yrs
SC/ST - 21 to 35 yrs


2- If you study very very hard, there are 99% chances of getting in (1% for luck factor).
3- There is absolutely NO weightage for XII and degree marks in UPSC exam.

No need to worry about your 12th marks the crietria for the UPSC exam is you have passed your graduation in any stream from recognized university.

And of you really work hard for the exam then you are sure to crack it and also for your info need not worry about your marks in 12th as you get rank according to your performance in the upsc exam.

Dear first of all i would like to say that if you were failed in class 12th then no problem but even after being failed in class 12th how could you get admission in bachelor's degree and that is engineering from mechanical stream so that dear if you have not completed your class 12th yet and got the degree from any institute or college in any stream then you are not eligible to apply for UPSC exams because the 10th and 12th classes are most necessary in a student's life and if you have not completed then you will not be allowed to apply or appear for any exam without completing class 12th and if you have completed then you can apply for civil service preliminary examination and other following exams also

UPSC Combined Defense Service Examination 2013

Indian Military : A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university and age should not be less than 19 years and more than 24 years

Indian Navy : A bachelor's degree in engineering in any discipline from a recognized university and age should not be less than 19 years and more than 22 years

Indian Air Force : A bachelor's degree with mathematics and physics as a compulsory subject and any one of the biology/chemistry/computer science from a recognized university and age should not be less than 19 years and more than 23 years

Each of these above mentioned exam conduct once in a year but CDS conducts two times in a year by UPSC board and you can apply for each and every single examination if you have above mentioned eligibility criteria

Yes Dear, You are eligible for the exam, don�t about the +2 marks.upsc requirements the candidate must have graduate in any stream from the approved university for the civil service exam. The percentage of the marks is no matter for the exam in the graduation as well as the other academic qualification. You have passed the entire qualification certificate or the degree. Age limit for the exam is the 21 to 30 years Age relaxation for the reserve category as per government rules The exam notification is released by the upsc in the month of the March. dear friend ,don't be depressed. because percentage criteria is not requirement , there are only require graduation in any stream from recognized university. so don't think about your marks. you are definately eligible for IAS exam. so focus on preparation. all the best..

The criteria for appearing in Civil Services Exam is :
1. Nationality : Indian
2. Academic qualification : Graduate in any stream from any recognized university.
3. Age limits : 21-30 (OPEN), 21-33 (OBC), 21-35(sc/st).
4. Attempts : OPEN-4 , OBC-7 ,SC/ST-9 .
No such percentage criteria is given for applying for Civil Services Exam. So you are eligible as you are a graduate.
No need to worry about your 12th marks. It wont be counted in UPSC.

can i know some information. how u done your btech? without qualified in 12th. my brother having good score in EMCET but he failed in 12th plz suggest me.

Dear Friend,

Do not worry about that you are eligible for civil services examination , which is conducts by Union Public Service Commission once in every year.

For that examination no need of 12th marks and also graduation marks.

But it is compulsory that candidate must be passed his/her graduation from any recognized university.

Candidate must be under 21-30 years.

If you wanna apply for this exam.
Then i wanna tell you that 12th marks not count in upsc exam.
But you graduation marks count in this exam.
Your graduation marks should be 54% min. then you can apply for this exam .
And you just got only 53% marks in your graduation year .
SO you cann't apply for this exam .
Sorry friend, but you can apply more other exams.
