Subject like as Public administration History Political science Geography Sociology This subject is most popular for the ias exam. And we got the study material from the market and the internet easily. The exam notification is declared by the upsc in the month of the March-2013. For more information please update with the www.upsc.gov.in Best of luck
Hi friend,
Well, Basically As English is your main subject that simply justifies that English is a must for you.

For choosing the Optional Subjects for UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) Mains, few things you can keep in mind are :
-Choose a subject of your interest, which you like reading and can grasp easily.
-Choose subjects which you have already studied at graduation level and you are familiar to radther than a completely
new subject. This will help save time as you already have some idea about the subject and you can gain more knowledge
on the subjects easily. You will not waste time on learning the basics from scratch.
-Choose subjects that you find easy to express yourself so that the examiner can understand that you have complete knowledge.
Mains exams are conducted to test the indepth knowledge and intellegence of candidates.
-Check the list of optional subjects mentioned in the list of UPSC Mains optional papers. You have to choose any two subjects from
them only and prepare 2 papers of each subject.Go through the syllabus of the optional subjects you you would like to take up and
then follow the elimination of subjects you would not dare attempt. You will come to know what topics have to be covered if you
choose a particular subject. You can choose subjects in which you know the topics already.
-Certain combinations of subjects are not allowed by UPSC,so keep an eye on them and choose the right combination for optionals.
-Being an English(Hons) you can take up subjects from the Arts stream. You can choose from subjects like Economics,Political science,
Geography,History,Sociology, etc which ever you are most comfortable with.
-You can take help of teachers, seniors, ideas from interviews of previous toppers, other co.aspirants, etc in choosing optional subject
but final decision should be yours because it is you who has to prepare and attempt the exam.
