Is it possible to develop GK (General Knowledge) in one year for UPSC exams?

Worried because of less General Knowledge. Please HELP.
Sir, I just completed my BE Mechanical Graduate Degree. I am planning to dedicate my full year for UPSC preparation. I am good in English and the other syllabus, even the optional subjects that I plan to choose. But my General Knowledge is REALLY REALLY weak. This is because I always hated reading Newspapers. Is it possible to develop my GK in one year for UPSC if I am ready to commit myselt sincerely? Please help. This thing really tortures my mind.

Yes it is possible to develop General knowledge in one year if you join social websites like facebook,twitter and yahoo groups and like UPSC pages in that websites and read newspapers often.
