Hello,
For passing CSE, you have to pass prelims, mains and finally interview. So, it is better to plan about first 2 stages initially even before prelims. If you pass prelims and do not pass mains, it will simply be waste of time and efforts. After passing prelims, if you decide mains subject, it will be very hard for you to complete even the course for 2 subjects + GS in the given time. So, it is better for you to complete your course before appearing for prelims. In that way only, you will increase your chances of cracking CSE.
Thanks,

Dear as for as my views are concerned that you must not think about the mains examination before qualifying the preliminary examination because the UPSC civil services prelims examination is not very easy to be qualified because there are so many candidates those who appears for this examination but only those candidates gets qualified in this examination who study hard only for this examination and not for anything others so that first of all you must care about both papers of preliminary examination - General Studies and CSAT because each paper is in objective type format and qualifying in both papers is necessary and you would have to score high to be eligible for mains examination so that it demands more and more study and both papers would be conducted for 400 marks so that dear care about the prelims and when you get qualified in the prelims then you would get at least 4 months to prepare for mains examination which is enough time for you to get prepared for mains examination and if you would provide more than 15 hours everyday for mains examination then you will easily get the call for interview process
All the best
