    Hi Aspirant

Upsc stands for the union public service commission

And they are conducting the civil services exam every year

    For the posts of IAS,IPS,IES

For these exams you need following qualifications:

-The candidate should be pass in graduation from a recognized indian university

-The candidate of final year can also apply for the exam

-And the age should be between 21-30

-Their will be relaxation given to the obc category is 3 years

-Relaxation given to the sc,st category is 5 years

And as far from the point of the optional subjects

My friend better would be to choose the subjects

Your self rather than us as we don't know in which subjects

You have interest and in which subjects you are strong

So choose the subjects in which you have interest

    Best of luck

There are no subjects available which you have studied in your engineering.
But since you are a science student so you can choose Mathematics/Chemistry/Physics as your optional subjects.

Bur make sure that you are comfortable with the subjects.
You must select the subject with you are comfortable & confident to score.

In the state if dilemma you can first solve the previous papers of the subjects you wish to choose.
Then select the subject you feel confident & got good scores.
this will also increase your self confidence on the subject to score.

You can get previous years question papers of all UPSC exams from http://www.upsc.gov.in/questionpaper/

since you have studied chemical engg, you can choose chemistry as optional. It depends on your interest and method of study.you can also choose high scoring opyionals such as history, geography, political science , sociology, public adminsitration etc.
AS for study material is concerned, you can buy them online at flipkart, jawahar book house and offline at many stores either by sending DD or buying in person

    Dear friend,

if you have interest and affinity towards chemistry, then you can take chemistry as an optional .
for choosing the other optional go through the syllabus of other optionals and which ever you feel comfortable take up.

an optional has to be selected based upon yourinterest, availability of study material, proper guidance, syllabus etc..

dont choose an optional just because somebody issaying that it is very scoring

the following are the famous optionals among theaspirant:
    History,geography,political science,publicadministration,psychology,sociology, philosophy,literatures,etc..

    STUDY MATERIAL:

1)advanced physical chemistry by gurdeep raj

2)a guide to mechanism in organic chemistry-peter skyes

    3)advance inorganic chemistry-J.D.lee

    4)pollution and its control-s.s.dara

    5)physical chemistry puri,sharma and pathwa.

the above mentioned books may be helpful for preparation.

    all the best
