Hello Friend,
THere is another way to become IAS. You can give state civil services. If you get a post of SDM, then there are chances that you may be promoted to IAS after about 15 years of your service. This promotion is frequent for smaller states but infrequent for bigger states. And also there is no guarantee that one will be promoted at all. So, you can try your luck via this alternate route.

I think there is no any other way to become an IAS officer other than through UPSC civil service examination.............if you got other way according to IAS officer then you will not get any advantage according to UPSC............so, according to me UPSC is the best options for become an IAS officer................

Dear for your kind information that there are two ways to become IAS officer in India but the work is done only by UPSC board and both modes are following :
1. Through UPSC Civil Services Exam : UPSC board conduct Civil Service exam and you will have to apply for this exam and qualify all the following steps to become an IAS officer :
1. Preliminary Exam - Objective type - 2 papers - 400 marks
2. Mains Examination - Conventional Type - 9 papers - 2000 marks
3. Interview Process - 300 marks
2. There is one more way to become an IAS officer which is following :
UPSC board has the authority to provide promotion to the state service commission employees those who have been selected in service through various state services exams means those candidates who qualifies as - MPSC, BPSC, MPPSC, UPPSC, UKPSC, TPSC, TNPSC, PPSC, HPSC, APPSC, GPSC, RPSC, CGPSC, KPSC, WBPSC, JPSC, or other states services commission exams and got selected for finally service under the state for which they have been declared as qualified so all those selected candidates gets promotions in their posts according to the government rules and this work is done by UPSC board as per government guidelines and officers those who are in state services get promotion on the basis of their work which is done in the state and complete clear record of the services and UPSC board provides them IAS Officer post and they comes under the central government services
