the civil service examination is conducted by upsc.
upsc exam consists three stages;-
preliminary
mains
interview

CSP EXAM;-

CSP consists two paper (1-optional subject to be selected from listed of subject for 300 marks)
2(general studies for 150 marks.

each paper have 2 hours duration.

main examination;-
only those candidate is eligible who have already clear preliminary exam.
civil services main examination have two optional subject(two paper each carries 300 marks)
one general studies(two paper each carries 300 marks)
one essay which carries 200 marks.
total 2000 marks.

The recruitment process starts with the publishing of notification in the month of November/December every year. Then Preliminary examination which is an objective exam is held in May/June of the following year. The results of Prelims. are announced in July/ August the same year. Selected candidates are eligible for Mains Exam which is the subjective exam and held in October of the same year. Mains result is out in March of the next year. The interview is held in April for the selected candidates. Result of the interview comes out in may just before the next prelims. Thus the process of civil service examination takes one complete year.
