Eligibility
- Master�s degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology; or
- Master�s degree in Mineral Exploration (for posts in Geological Survey of India only), or
- Master�s degree in Hydrogeology (for posts in central ground water board only) from a recognized university;
- Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
Age : A candidate age should be below 32 years as on mentioned date in Advt.

The Geologist exam can be classified into 2 categories namely as:
Category I:
Post of Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Coal and Mines
Category II:
Post of Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources
For writing the Geologist exam you must satisfy certain eligibility criteria's and they may include:
>> Candidates who are applying for this exam must be a citizen of India.
>> Candidates must have a age limit of 21-32 years.
>> Candidates must have any of these education qualification:
1. Master's degree in Geology /Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized university
(OR)
2. Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad
(OR)
3. Master's degree in Mineral exploration from a recognized university
(OR)
4. Master's degree in Hydrogeology from a recognised university
>> Candidates appearing for the exam must be physically fit as per regarding the physical standards.

General English - 100 Marks
Geology Paper-I - 200 Marks

the age limit is for general category is 21 to 30 years. and attempt the exam 4 time.
the age limit is for obc category is 21 to 33 years ( 3 years relaxation ). attempt the exam 7 times.
age limit for SC/ST category is 21 to 35 years and attempt chance till overage. means unlimited

Eligibility Criteria for UPSC Geologist's exam 2013
>> Candidate should have completed master's degree in - Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology
>> Degree should be completed from a recognized university or institute or board under the government
>> Age should not be less than 21 years and more than 32 years and relaxation in age as per government rules
>> 5 years upper age relaxation for SC/ST category candidates and 3 years upper age relaxation for OBC

Examination Pattern for UPSC Geologist's exam is following as -

You will get complete 3 hours for each paper and total marks would be - 1000 for all 5 papers
