After successful completion of UPSC Mains & Interview steps the final selection would be done on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the main examination would determine their final ranking.
The candidates will be allotted to the various vacancies based on the final ranking.
The candidates must be physically fit and medically according to the physical standards for admission to the civil services examination.

After clearing of Mains and Interview now suppose you get highest rank than you can join as IAS. But since you got higher marks you have choice to choose Foreign or Police Service. Its depends on you.

Interview Round is the last stage in UPSC Civil Services Examination.
After Interview round you will be allotted the posting according to your performance in the examination.
You will be called to complete necessary documentation and submitting your certificates etc before joining the post.
As far as I know candidates go under training period after getting selected.
Candidates will be sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie for training on how to execute their powers, their duties and responsibility.
So start preparing yourself thoroughly for the examination because it is one of the toughest exam in the whole Asia.

After clearing the Mains and interview the final merit list is prepared by the UPSC board. And sort out the candidate according the rank system.
After the interview candidate got the marks and merit list prepared by the upsc, then candidate got the position according to the ranking system or the preference.
Upsc allotted the various vacancies and rank to the candidate and start the training process.

After clearing mains exam and Interview, there is no next step for the candidates.
After Interview all the processing will be done by UPSC.
Now UPSC will prepare the final merit list on the basis marks gained by candidates in mains and Interview.
UPSC will sort listed the candidates name according to category and try to allot desired seat to the candidates.
Finally UPSC dispatch the joining letter of candidates with their over all marks and ranking.
