When you prepare for Civil Service Examination, you are surrounded by many such apprehensions but, now the time has come when you need to decide what come work for you.Be it History or Sociology, both make very good combination with Public Administration. Each subject has its pros and cons and has specific requirements which you need to understand before you decide.
Pros:
1) it checks the candidate in areas like critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. THe previous pattern did not include these topics. THese new areas are very much required for top most administrators.
2) Further it reduces the equation between an experienced candidate and a fresher.
In previous pattern of optional subject, a candidate who has already written the exam in previous years has an advantage over the candidates who are appearing for the first time.
In the new pattern, there is no such difference between fresher and experienced. All have to attend afresh , because of questions like comprehension, critical and logical reasoning
Cons:
1) THis system gives an undue advantage for Engineering graduates who faces such kind of exams in their placement
2) This exam also favours hindi language students. Because reading comprehension questions are in hindi, which gives an advantage to them as against the candidates who attempt in English.
