It is not necessary to go coaching in order to crack for UPSC exam.
Actually CSE is very tough exam of India.
So you will have to very hard work in right direction and guidance.
This guidance you can get from any good coaching institute.
If you have other sources of guidance you can take their help.
There are many crackers who cracked the CSE without the help of coaching center.

Dear Friend,
Nice to hear that you want to prepare for UPSC Exams.
But i just want to tell you that UPSC conducts a number of exams so you have to mention that about which examination you are concerning.
As there are a number of exams which are conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission and the eligibility criteria is different for different exams.
So , just try to repost your question so as we can get detailed information about which UPSC Exam you want the details.
Now , as per your second ask i would like to tell you that it depends upon the student that whether he thinks that self study can lead his/her way to success or not .
But one basic thing i want to tell you that the coaching centers are just for showing you the right way to prepare for your exam, they do not guarantee that you will get success. So , it totally depends on you.
This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. hope the information will help you to the extent you want.
