    Hello Friend,

My advice to you is to opt the subjects that you are comfortable with. The present success rate should not be used for predicting future success rate. Moreover, others' success or failure in one combination should not be taken as benchmark for oneself. I am sure that you can not deny the fact everyone is unique with unique qualities. I would suggest you to go through the syllabus of subjects that you wish to take and see if you are fine with it, if you can get quality study material related to it, if there are good tutors available in case you wish to take tutions for it.

Nevertheless, regarding math subject, the syllabus is lengthy, there is no well defined study material so you have to collate it on your own and there are very few individuals providing coaching in maths subject. Everything said, people with Maths have got top ranks also and many have failed also. The success depends on the hard work that one puts.

    Thanks,
    goyalk

    Hello Friend,

It was his first attempt. It took him about 6 months to crack the exam. He didn't join any coaching institute for written exams and did all the preparation on his own. However, he joined coaching institute for interview preparation. He is from electrical branch. With 6 months preparation, he was able to manage 39 rank. I am listing his way of preparation:

1- He took study material of IES MADE EASY from market. He had some friends doing coaching. He also took class notes from them.
2- He used to study minimum 14 hrs a day.
3- He based his study mostly on standard books.
4- He wrote the exam and passed it.

It doesn't sound magical but that is the truth. You don't have to do anything magical. You just need to study hard, avoid wasting time and revise the things again and again. Thr revision is the key. All the formulae should be on your fingertips, otherwise you won't be able to solve questions in the highly tensed environment of exam.

Do write if you need anything else. And, please be specific this time.

    Thanks,
    goyalk

Okay thanks a lot......!!!!! Just few small doubts..... Wil they allow code books n calci for conventional paper datz on 3rd day....??? Did he refer to any other books other than made easy for general studies n English??? N sorry for nt being specific earlier its just dat its ma first attempt too n their is no1 to guide me properly nor I hav any frndzz in dat made easy coaching center so I thought this would b de best platform to clear ma doubts though it might b silly at times....!!!!! n did he concentrate on al de sub as per syllabus or few in particular????
Anyways it would b better if u list out the exact detail abt IES exam lik the general instructions necessary while taking up dat exam, wat kind a job wil v land if selected n remember mine is civil engineering.... In brief!!!!!
    Thanks again......

    Hello Friend,

You would not be allowed to carry any printed material inside examination hall except your admit card. Scientific calculator is allowed but only the one which can't store formulae.
For general studies and English, MADE EASY material is sufficient. Though he read all the subjects but he focussed more on 75% topics. He chose the most frequently asked topics/chapters from the syllabus and studied them diligently.

    General instructions:
    1- Study hard.
    2- Do smart study.
    3- Study from standard books.
4- Make a separate notebook for formulas and revise them daily.
5- Prepare gist of everything you study.
6- Revise the gists after every 15 days.
7- Appear in the exam confidently.

Mind this, most of the aspirants do not pay attention to English portion of GS paper which cost them around 20-30% of marks in GS paper.
The civil engg IES job is the most sought out job. They enjoy the highest admiration among IES officers from all branches. The reason is that every project has more than 50% civil engg. component. I think you get the message what I want to say indirectly.

Please, do write if you have any other queries. And one more thing, while writing English, do not write mobile English. It will help you only in your preparation.

    Thanks,
    goyalk

    Hello anjiee,

There is no separate reservation especially for girls. However there is categorywise reservation as with all central level exams. There are seats reserved for OBC (except creamy layer), SC and ST aspirants. I want you to study so hard that you do not need any type of reservation. After all, you need only one seat and there are plenty for hard-workers in IES exam

    Thanks,
    goyalk

    Hello Anjiee,

UPSC will provide whatever it thinks as necessary for solving questions in the examination hall. They may provide you with separate code books or the required values may be given in the question paper itself. It will be their decision which way they want to choose. Moreover, if you can't solve without codebook, neither of other candidates would. Am I right in saying so? So, don't worry about it, and prepare for the exam.

    Thanks,
    goyalk

Okay..... Thanks a ton for everything....!!!!!! If I have any doubt thn will ask you..... Thanks a lot again.... And as I said code book is most essential to solve the problems for anyone.... Unless they mention the required values and necessary information in question paper itself code book won't be necessary....
