In preliminary exam there are two exam
1.CSAT(history, English,G.K,current affairs, Geo,maths, chemistry,physics,bio)
It include all the mention subjects they all have different weight age as announce in the notification every time.
2.General studies
Main exam only for the selected who crack preliminary exam
1.Any Indian language
2.English
3.Two optional subject as choose by you while filling up the form.
4.Interview
The notification for civil service exam conduct at www.upsc.gov.in and also in employment news paper.
so my advices is
1.choose two optionals carefully & start improving writing in them, do practice to write answers in essay manners in particularily these two subjects atleast.
2. learn NCERT BOOKS FROM class III to XII,fro the general studies.
3.start reading two good level competitive magazines like compeptition success review,prtiyogita darpan,frontline for the current affairs.
4.purchase a good ATLAS,learn it heartly.
5.order correspondance study material (though it is optional upto you)
If you do able to complete above things then surely you will got the oppurtunity to succeed, good luck.

you do not mention the optional subject which you required in the mains exams.
no mention the degree stream.
now i tell you the general studies for the preliminary exam
history, pol sci. science. geography, reasoning, mental ability, current general knowledge, English etc
for the general study you read the NCERT books

- The selection process for the Indian Administrative service include Common Aptitude Test followed by Main Test and personnel interview
- The common aptitude test includes two successive test which includes Objective paper with a maximum mark of 400. The question is available in English and Hindi.
- The aspirant selected for the next main round is about one- twelveth to thirteen of the total vacancies that is available. The marks secured in aptitude is not included for the final round.

UPSC Prelims exam is divided into two papers and both papers are objective type questions . Each paper consist of 200 marks and duration of each paper is 2 hrs .
UPSC prelims consist of lot topics are :-

This year prelims examination was already completed next announcement will be in the month of Feb or Mar in the official website of UPSC as well as employment news papers and other leading news papers also .
UPSC Exam Qualification :-
Completed graduate degree with any desire subject of recognized University or equivalent qualification and final year of degree course may also eligible to apply for this examination . No specific marks required for this examination .
Age should lies be between 21 years and 30 years as on 1st august of the year of examination and Upper age limits is applicable for SC/ST/OBC and other reserved categories.
Number of attempts :- 4 attempts for Gen , 7 attempts for OBC , No limits .

civil services exam is an important exam for which you have to study very carefully .
the best way for its preparation is to go with the syllabus of upsc for this exam.
