Dear,
The gap between the Preliminary and Main examination is at about five months. There is no such passing criteria for the examination. So you have to qualify the examination and obtain the minimum qualifying marks which is decided by the UPSC. Thanks...

Hey there,
>> The Civil Services exams are conducted annually by the UPSC.
>> Now,you must be aware that the exams are carried out in three legs,namely-The Prelims. The Mains and The Interviews.
>> To your question,I would like to clarify that there is a gap of about 4 and a half to 5 months between the Preliminary and The Mains exams.
>> The Preliminary exams are conducted in May.
>> The results of the same are declared by the first week of August.
>> The Shortlisted candidates are invited to fill in the detailed application form for the Mains exams, which is scheduled to run between October and November.
>> The dates of exams for Mains vary according to the optional subjects you have chosen.
>> However, the GS papers,Essay paper, and the English language qualifying paper happen on the same day for all.
>> The competition being very tough, one must for the result of the Prelims to be declared.
>> Start your preparations soon after the Prelims.Five months are enough to fetch good results.
>> For proper notifications regarding the events around this exam, visit the official website of the UPSC :: www.upsc.gov.in
