The minimum qualification required to apply for the civil services is graduation and it would be better if you do start preparation for the civil services after completing your graduation or being in the final year of graduation.
The civil services are one of the most difficult exams for one to crack,you will have to work hard to get it,it would be better if you start preparation in the third year.

Civil services examinations is the toughest examinations conducted by UPSC.This examination is generally held for the different services like:
Indian Police services
Indian Administrative services
Indian Foreign services
you are eligible for the civil service exam if you complete the degree from the approved university and complete the age 21 years and your age is no more than the 30 years.
upsc requirement the candidate must have graduate in any stream from the approved university.
After qualifying the Interview process of IAS exam those candidate who secure highest marks and in the top 10 are selected for Indian Foreign Services.
Number of Attempts for Civil Services Exam : A general category candidate can apply for this exam only for 4 times, OBC category candidates are allowed to apply for this exam only for 7 times and there is no limitation for SC/ST category candidates but they also are allowed to apply for this exam till 35 years of age.
Physical Standards are required for Indian Police Services Exam 2012 which are following as :
1. Hight Male - 165 cm and 160 cm for ST Category candidates.
2. Hight Female - 150 cm and 145 cm for ST Category candidates
3. Chest Male - 84 cm and 5 cm expansion
4. Chest Female - 79 cm and 5 cm expansion
5. Eye Sight : 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision is decided for good eye and 6/12 or 6/9 declared for worst eye
6. Nasal : Candidate Male or Female must not stammer while speaking
7. Female Candidate should not be pregnant while medical or physical test.

If you are interested to go in civil services then you should start your preparation of civil services exams after completing your 12th class exams and getting passed in class 12th and you should following following steps to prepare for this exam :
>> Go for any reputed coaching institute and find out the best coaching institute for your preparation
>> Coaching institute should having good and successful faculties and more facility with good study environment for civil services
>> You should not pay the fee at once for complete course means you should pay the fee in installments
>> you should give at least 8 hours for your study after and before the coaching institute means if you will do it then your complete study hours would be about 15 hours but you will pursue your degree so that it would not be possible for you so that you should give at least 2-3 hours everyday
>> You should make any 5 subjects more strong and make as you could not leave any one question also in the exam so that you would be at least 70% prepared for exam
>> You should prepare hard for your prelims exam till the completion of your second year of the degree and when you comes in the final year so that you should increase the time of your study because final year pursuing candidates can apply for this exam
>> Your preparation should be completed as you could qualify the preliminary exam at once and try to score more and more in the exam
>> After that you would be free from your degree course so that you should give at least 15 hours for your mains preparation everyday then you would be able to crack the exam
>> When you called for interview process you should take some guidance from any successful IAS officer or your seniors those who have been selected in IAS exam
