The time table for the UPSC exam is below :
-> In the month of December / January the advertisement for the exam will be published .
-> In the month of May the preliminary exam will be taken .
-> In the month of october/november , the Main exam will be taken .
-> In the month of march/april , interview will be taken .
-> In the month of May , the result will be declared .
Who Can Give the exam ?
Every graduate candidate are eligible for the exam but one should fulfill the below criteria
-> one done their graduation from any recognized university
-> age must be between 21-30 for general cast , 3 years relaxion for obc and 5 years relaxion for sc/st/ex-serviceman , 10 years relaxion for physically handicapped.
In UPSC there is a limit for the no of attempts .
4 for general cast
7 for obc cast
no limit for the sc/st cast
What are the exam pattern ?
Exam pattern consist three parts
1.preliminary exam
Preliminary exam consist two papers
1.General Study
2.Optional subject
and one should pass this exam for qualifying for the next round .
2.Main Exam
It consist 9 papers
1-Any language defined in constitution of India
2-english
3-essay
4-general study
5-general study
6-optional subject-1
7-optional subject-1
8-optional subject-2
9-optional subject-2
Out of which first twos marks are not considered but one have to get minimum require marks in that paper also otherwise one can failed .
3.Interview
The final selection will be based on the marks secured in main exam plus interview together .

the civil service preliminary exam is held in the month of the may and mains exam is held in the month of the august or september.

first of all one thing i have to say i.e.,
UPSC exam is a not a single one
this involves plenty of exams that held by every year
the notification for CDS exam was released on june 2nd
the notification for CPF(central police forces) will be released on july 27th
the notification for IES and ISS exams will be released on aug 18th
the notification for geologists exam will be released on aug 25th
these are the remaining exams conducted by UPSC in 2012
so if you have any related qualification then you will get in
any way good luck..

this year you can not apply because this year the exam prelims exam was on 20- 5- 2012.
But don't worry you can try for the next year.
Remember that the notification of the examination releases in the month of january/february every year.
So if you will aware than may be get the opportunity .

There's no such thing called UPSC exam.
UPSC is Union Public Service Commission which conducts many exams in which Civil Service Exam(CSE) is one of them.
The most popular misnomer of CSE is 'IAS exam' or 'UPSC exam. In other words, everyone think that CSE is 'IAS exam' or 'UPSC exam'.
In CSE, there are two phases.
1) Preliminary :
Date of exam : 20-05-2012
So the exam is already conducted.
2) Mains:
Date of exam : 05-10-2012
This is remaining to happen.
Note: Remember that only who've cleared Preliminary are eligible to write Mains.
So you cannot write now.
All you need to do is to wait till next year Preliminary notification.
