    Hi Aspirant

Well the answer for your question is simply no

Their is no need that your maths should be good

As Maths is not a compulsory subject in the upsc cse exam

As their is only two compulsory subjects and that is English and General Studies

So you have to be good in the both of the subjects

The exam is normally conducting in the month of may or june

From the upsc department and the notification of the exam comes in feb.

    Educational Qualification:

    # The Aspirant must be pass in the graduation from a recognized university

    # The Aspirant must be pass with just passing marks

    # The Aspirant of the final year of degree are also eligible for the exam

    Attempts:

    4 For the General
    7 For the Obc
    Unlimited For the sc,st

    Age Limits:

    # The Age limit for the general is 21-30

    # For the obc it is 21-33

    # The age limit for the sc,st 21-35

    # The Age limit for the ph is 21-40

    Citizen:

    # The Aspirant must be a citizen of India

    Best of luck

Re: Is it compulsory to be good in maths if I want to appear in UPSC IAS exam?

In UPSc CSAT exam, the syllabus inlcudes the following
    1) Data Interpretation skills
    2) Quantitative ability skills
    3) Language skills, decision making and problem skills
    4) comprehension skills
out of the total 80 questions being asked, 0nly 10-15% involves arithmetic qualification. Major part of questions comes from comprehension and ENglish languages skills. These 10-15% maths questions also does not require brilliance in maths to solve. these questions would involve simple calculations only, but it will require the candidates to involve the basic laws and fundamentals to solve them. THese can be mastered in a few months. SO try hard to crack atleast 5% of maths questions. Rest no problem you can score in other sections.
regarding mains exam, no difficulty unless you choose maths as an optional subject. In other papers such as general studies no maths questions are asked.
Put liitle more effort to cross first hurdle, then success is yours

MATHEMATICS is indeed a very important subject related to our life.
it is useful to us in each and every unit of our living .

but as far as upsc civil services examination is concerned it is not at all necessary to be good in mathematics .
there are many other subjects that take you achieve success in this examinations.

as you may know that graduation in any stream or subjects
form recognized university is the basic necessity
to apply for the upsc civil services examination .

so there is nothing to worry about mathematics
as other subject will also make eligible to apply for the civil services examination.

there are many example of the successful civil services candidates
who cleared the exam with subjects like history, geography ,political science etc.

so my word to you are you need not to worry .
mathematics is not at all a necessity to appear for the upsc civil services examination.

    Dear,

if your mathematics skills is poor then you don't worry about this.

the mathematics question is only ask in the general studies exam.

percentage of the mathematics question is the 10-15% of the 100% question of the paper.

you prepare the other subject hardly then you cover the marks of the that subject instead of the the mathematics.

then easily you cover the 10-15% part of the mathematics.

so don't worry you start your preparation

    best of luck
