Ofcourse IES officers get promotion & salary increment according to Session Budget & Govt. norms. In some dept. even exams are conducted for promotion followed by interview. You can apply for the same.

there is hierarchical order in IES officer's posts like any other govt. organization. Initially after training or probation, IES officers are placed as section officers in various departments such as Railways, defense, ordinance factories, etc. later based on the years of service and performance, IES officers are given promotion. the various posts
1) Assistant director
2) under secretary, joint secretary
3) deputy director
4) director
5) adviser
6) chief adviser
thus he can be promoted from one post to another as mentioned above with increase in his basic salary, grade pay and other emoluments accordingly

Your post will start from Assistant Executive Engineer and you can get promotion in the following order


� At the joining Assistant Executive Engineer.



� After that Executive Engineer



� And then Executive Engineer (junior administrative grade)



� After that Chief Engineer level-2 (equivalent to Director to Government of India).



� Then Chief Engineer level-1 (equivalent to Joint Secretary to Government of India).



� And finally Engineer-in-Chief (equivalent to Additional Secretary to Government of India)

Definitely IES officers gets promotion.If there would be no promotion why would anyone be interested in work???IES officers are posted generally as Assistant Executive Engineer after training.There will be promotion after 3years or sometimes earlier also depending upon performance.You will be promoted to Executive Engineer-Chief engineer(Leve I)-Chief Engineer(Level II)-Engineer in Chief.
If you get selected in IRSE etc the posts name will be different.But there are very good promotions and increments.

Yes promotions will be done if you give your best to the department and do your service really good..
