Hello
Yes a BCA student can take the history as a subject for the civil services of UPSC.
There are various subjects that is offered by the UPSC and there is no limitation of the selection subject,any body from any back ground can select any subject ,no such limitations on the subject combination.
As the fact is that most of the services related to the UPSC is a services which is provided to the civilians of our country and in order to that,one need to know all the aspect of the Indian culture and civilization and that can be done only if you go through the subjects like Indian history,geography etc all the subjects related to the Indian culture.
Hence most of the subjects that is included in the civil services gives knowledge about the Indian culture,and any every body will have to learn such subjects in order to get the job.Hence any body from any stream can select any subject.

Yes you can select any two subjects according to your interest but there are some combinations which are not allowed-
Political sciences and international relations
Commerce and management
Anthropology and sociology
Maths and statics
Agriculture and animal husbandry
Any two literature
Any two branches of engineering
Public relations and management.

Examination Pattern for UPSC Civil Services Exam :
Preliminary Exam : There are two objective type papers conducted in the prelims exam and each paper contains 200 marks and if you could not qualify in this exam then you would not be allowed to apply for mains exam
Mains Examination : There are 9 conventional type papers conducted in this mains exam and the complete examination pattern is following and you would also have to select any two optional subjects in the mains exam from the following list
Paper -1 - Any one Indian Language from the list of UPSC board - 300 marks
Paper - 2 - English Language - 300 marks
Paper - 3 - Essay - 200 marks
Paper - 4 & 5 - General Studies - I and II - 300 marks each
Paper - 6 & 7 - Any one optional subject as - I and II - 300 marks
Paper 8 & 9 - Any one optional subject as - I and II - 300 marks
Total marks alloted for all 9 papers - 2000
