Dear friend,
a computer engineering student can appear for IES examination conducted by UPSC but the student should have completed graduation(in engineering) from a recognized university at the time of examination.
But since IES conducts its examination through only 4 branches namely:-
>Electrical Engineering
>Mechanical Engineering
>Electronics and Communication Engineering
>Civil Engineering
So you have to prepare for the examination and clear it from any of the above 4 mentioned branches.
Thank you and all the best![]()

Look friend,
this is a common confusion about the Indian engineering services so here I clear your all the doubts about the examination.
all the engineering graduates are eligible for the same but the restriction is that you have to give the examination for one of the four branches given below so you are eligible but only if ready for giving the examination in any of the four branches.
the branches are:-
* electrical engineering.
* civil engineering.
* electronics and telecommunication engineering.
* mechanical engineering.
I know it is very difficult for an engineering graduate with other branch to prepare another subject but don't worry you will be posted according to you specialized branch in which you complete your engineering.
so yes it is quite difficult but to achieve something you have to give a cost for that so you have to do it if wanna get the job.
now talking about the other details about the examination .
the examination has two basic requirements one is described above and the other one is that the candidate must be Indian citizen.
the other requirements are as under;
age required:-
1. 21-30 yrs for general category.
2. 21-33 years for obc category.
3. 21-35 yrs for sc/st category.
rest the no of attempts are as below.
- for general category:- 4 attempts.
- for obc category :-7 attempts.
- for sc/st category;- no restriction.
so you should apply next year.
good luck
