HELLO FRIEND,
IFS stands for Indian Forest Service Examination and this examination is Conducted by UPSC Every year. For this year examination Notification was already Published and the Online Registrations was also started. The last date of apply for this examination is 14/May/2012 and the examination will be conducted soon on 14/July/2012.
To apply for this examination you must have completed your Bachelor�s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor�s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering from a recognised University.
Final year appearing candidates are also apply for this examination.
To apply for this examination, you must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2012.
The written examination consisting of the following papers:
~~ Paper I : General English ----------300 marks
~~ Paper II : General Knowledge -------300 marks
~~ Paper III : Any two subjects ------200 marks
~~ Paper IV : from the list of optional
~~ Paper V : Subjects selected by candidates
~~ Paper VI : Each subject will have two papers
All papers form III to VI will be of 200 Marks. Those who cracked the written examination are eligible for Personal Interview.

Yes of course you can apply for the indian forest services examination because it requires the graduation in the following departments like animal husbandry, engineering, vatinerary science, botany, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, statistics and zoology or a bachelor degree in agriculture or forestry or engineering from a recognised university.
Your age needs to be 21 to 30 years of age.
Examination pattern is as follows-
Written examination will be conventional essay type part 1 general english 300 marks.
Part 2 general knowledge 300 marks.
Part 3,4,5,6 any two subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects.
Every subjects have 2 papers.
There will be 200 marks for each of the papers.
Total marks required will be 1400. for the written examination.

I am brief telling you the examination pattern
The Indian Forest Service Examination will consist of two successive stages
1) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination; and
2) Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service.
Besides this keep in mind that you satisfied the minimum age criteria limit of 21 years of age.
