=>Yes you can drop the main exam but why you want to drop the exam ? , because as you passed in your preliminary exam and now you want to drop the main exam .
=>If you drop the main exam then also your one attempt is lost .
=>In next year you have to start with preliminary exam once again , you can't appear directly to Main exam just because you drop the main exam last year .
=> So i advice you to not to quit the main exam because this is good chance for you to crack the exam .
good luck
No you cannot do that,it is not allowed to drop the mains exams after qualifying for Prelims exams
in a particular year and then directly appear in the CS Mains exams in the Upcoming year.
If you are not prepared for the mains exams and you drop it in a particular year, you will waste your attempt.
You will have to reappear in the Prelim exams of the upcoming year and qualify it to become eligible for Mains exams of that year.
So, in a given year you have to appear in the prelims and mains both and qualify to get interview call.If you clear the interviews
which is the test of personality of a candidate, you will be listed in the Final merit list.

Hi Aspirant
Sorry to say that it is not possible at all
If you have passed the upsc pre exam
Then you have to appear in the mains exam in the same year
And for the same session as per given by the department
Suppose one thing that you have passed pre this year
And you want to appear in the exam next year
Than may be other reason is your preparation is not full
And you want to prepare for the exam
But this is not allowed as everybody will ask the same thing
As Here is All Essential Qualification Required for the exam:
~~ The Candidate must be pass in degree from a recognized Indian University
~~ The Candidate of the Final year also can write the exam
~~ The Candidate just need to be with passing marks in degree
Age Limitation :
~~ The Age should be 21-30
~~ Age Relaxation as per the government rules
Number of Attempts :
~~ Their is 4 attempts for general
~~ Their is unlimited attempts for the sc,st
~~ Their is 7 attempts for the obc
Best of luck
